Fall-Winter Skin Care Routine

Hey Lovelies,

Today we are going to talk skin care! With the hype of Halloween behind us and the brutal winter quickly approaching (despite the spring weather that’s trying to throw us off), now is ideal time to switch over your skin care routine to one that is more moisturizing.  The dry heat blasting in our offices and homes requires us to give our skin a little more TLC to stay balanced and glowing.  One thing I have always been proactive about is having a good skin care routine, because if you don’t take care of your skin, you can wear the most expensive makeup in the world and it simply wont look good.  If you do a good job taking care of your skin in your 20’s and 30’s your anti aging efforts won’t have to be so intense in your 40’s and 50’s.

img_0004Some of the most important things I learned in my first job in the beauty world as a makeup artist for Bare Minerals were you should never skip moisturizer (even if you have oily skin), you should always clean your brushes (because otherwise what’s the point of cleaning your face) and you should ALWAYS wear eye cream, especially if you plan to wear concealer. Concealer is non negotiable for me so my eye cream is as important as my face cream, not to mention the eye area is one of the first areas of the face to show wrinkles and develop lines!
A little about my skin, I am in my early 30’s, I have combination skin and I don’t really have much acne but I have passive aggressive dryness that makes blackheads a much bigger problem than they need to be.  I follow the traditional Cleanse, Exfoliate (mornings only), Treat and Moisturize routine.  Because I am product junkie and a blogger, I try many different products and long and behold I keep coming back to these basics.  My skin definitely knows when I am pulling a switcharoo with my products and sometimes reacts badly

So here are my ride or die products:

                                                          Cleanse and Exfoliate

Philosophy Purity and Microdelivery

Philosophy Purity – The gentlest cleanser that actually really cleanses my skin, it never leaves my skin feeling dry but it feels refreshed.  A really cool thing about Purity, you can actually remove your makeup with purity without using water.  Just so you know, I buy it in the 32 oz. size and actually finish the bottle!

Philosophy Microdelivery – This is probably the silkiest exfoliator ever! But it works.  My skin tends to get dry patches which develop into blackheads, then pimples, then blemishes (in that order).  I find that when I don’t exfoliate a few times a week my skin starts developing blackheads uncontrollably….so I keep it simple and exfoliate because its more expensive to not exfoliate. I use microdelivery in the morning instead of purity or after purity if wore lots of makeup and reapplied throughout the day.

                                                                             Treat

Serum, Day Cream and Night Cream

Philosophy When Hope is Not Enough Serum This is an oil free serum that sinks into skin like nothing else, it provides an initial boost of moisture and gives my skin all of the antioxidants, peptides and vitamins it needs.  I also really like that I can use it in the am and the pm.  I apply it after cleansing and give it a few minutes to absorb (this is key). I follow with the neuropeptide cream.

Perricone MD Neuropeptide Facial crème – I will lead with it smells like fish for the first five minutes and then the smell disappears and your skin is glowing! It’s a treatment crème that I use as a moisturizer.  It includes peptides and vitamin c in its most power form, C-ester.   I have used it for the last year and I have seen a big difference in the glow in my skin and the evenness of tone.

Perricone MD Neuropeptide Night Cream -This cream packs all of my anti aging ingredients and moisturizers in one delightfully smelling creme that actually sinks in and doesn’t sit on the surface of my skin like many on the market.

                                                                               Moisturize

Eye Cream and Moisturizer

Philosophy Hope in a Jar – So, I normally use tinted moisturizers or serum foundations both of which offer coverage and SPF.  However, I prefer very light coverage, so I mix my tinted moisturizer and/or whatever foundation I am wearing with this moisturizer.  It is light yet moisturizing, it leaves my skin with a dewy finish which I really like.

Kiehls Avocado Eye Cream – I use this emollient eye cream day and night because the under eye area of my skin is very dry.  I wear concealer everyday with or without foundation, so the overstimulation makes it dry. This cream sinks right in, feels almost like water when you first apply it but it seals in moisture for the whole day.  Love it! I also like the idea of a natural product close to my eyes, I have very sensitive eyes.

So there you have it, this is how I glow! What do you use on your skin?

Until Next week!!

Ciao,
